2010 Craft Demonstrations

All demonstrations are free and ongoing.

See unique and popular Asian art forms at this year's event. Meet and ask questions of our demonstrators. Learn a new craft. See creativity in action!

Kiri-e: Utilizing the fine and intricate aspects of Japanese Kiri-e, Mia Yoshihara-Bradshaw artistically brings to life her designs and fine art through dramatic arrays of color, pattern and texture.

Life Masks/Potter: This is the year to have your life mask made. Beverly Toyu makes it relaxing and mystical.

Pottery: Hiroshi Ogawa and Terry Inokuma anchor the crafts section with their timeless creations. They transform lumps of wet clay into bowls and pots. It's not as easy as it looks!

Japanese Bookbinding: Make your own book with Japanese style binding with Elizabeth Uhlig and friends.

Basketry: Japanese traditions & Pacific Northwest sensibility infuse Donna Sakamoto Crispin's baskets.

Fiber Arts: Susan Ogawa explores fibers through shibori techniques and re-purposed textiles. Umaima Barma will showcase her lovely Japanese textile art.

Beading: It's a year later; come and see the progress on Russell Morton's Four Seasons of Water.

Papermaking: Aimee Yogi returns to show us how to make paper from cooked plant fibers. (Sat. only)

Decoupage: Sophie Barma joins her mother, bringing Asian style decoupage to the festival.

Origami: Tomo Tsurumi, encourages children of all ages to try the art of paper folding. Welcome Weston Young, our youngest craftsperson, to the Origami scene.

Printmaking: Yuji Hiratsuka brings his thoroughly modern etchings with attitude and humor.

Ceramics, Sculpture: Fanciful meditating boars, peaceful warriors, the Sun Goddess.. Wataru Sugiyama brings clay to life.

Woodblock Prints: Arren Padgett demonstrates his own artwork. Experience the process of wood block prints through Walt Padgett's beautiful landscapes, influenced by his love of the Northwest and Japan.

Gourds and Baskets: Lei McCornack brings her painted gourds, woven hats, purses, and more. South Pacific dreaming...
