25th Anniversary Commemorative Oregon Asian Celebration Cookbook
2010 celebrates 25 years of the Asian Celebration in the Eugene-Springfield community. As a commemorative offering, Marvy Schuman, cooking instructor and chair for the Cooking Demonstrations, compiled and edited the first cookbook from the various community members. Reflections of 25 Years: The Asian Celebration's Community Cookbook, has 185 recipes from the various organizations and members of the Eugene community from almost all Asian countries. Most recipes are for beginner and intermediate level cooking, and ingredients are readily available from the various Asian grocery stores in the community. The cookbook will be available for sale at the celebration for $10 in the cooking demonstration area and the information booth.
You can also purchase the cookbook by filling out an order form and mailing it to the Asian Council. We know you'll love the recipes in this commemorative collection! To order by mail, click here.
2010 Cooking Demonstrations Ms. Schuman remains passionate about Asian cuisine reigning supreme in the battle against obesity. Most Asian dishes titillate all the taste sensors in one dish: salty, spicy, sweet, bitter, and sometimes, sour, that results in the satiation of the palate almost immediately. Perhaps this is a reason why it isn't necessary to over indulge when eating Asian foods. Balanced with the bland background of rice or noodles which are very inexpensive, Asian foods can surely stretch a family's budget for eating wholesome and delicious meals.
This year's Cooking Demonstration offerings will revolve around traditional cuisines. Given the extensive variety of what is out there, we will present the preparation of some of the most popular dishes one looks for in a certain country, as well as some of the more universal dishes such as fried rice, stir-fries or steamed foods.
Nutritious, delicious, and very budget friendly, Asian cuisine reigns supreme at a time when obesity plagues the population and when many families are challenged with providing nutritious foods without breaking the bank. Cooking instructor, book editor, and Cooking Demonstration Chair, Marvy Schuman, together with guest community members, will present an array of healthy recipes packed with great taste. Ms. Schuman further champions teaching children how to prepare foods at an early age. Her two youngest children, now in college and middle school, Travis and Samara, will assist in some of the demonstrations. All recipes are easy enough to prepare at home, with lots of tips on variations. Most of the featured dishes encompass the use of universal Asian ingredients and cooking techniques. Because this is the 25th year anniversary of the Asian Celebration, the cooking theme highlights traditional cuisines.
